Mrs. Kathryn Abbott
Welcome to Briggs Elementary School! My name is Kathryn Abbott, and I am honored to serve as the principal of this wonderful school. With over 16 years of experience in education, I bring a passion for creating a nurturing and inspiring environment where every student can thrive. My goal is to ensure that each student feels valued, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential.
As a Leader in Me school, we are committed to fostering a culture of personal and academic excellence. We believe in empowering every student to become confident, capable, and compassionate leaders. Our dedicated educators work tirelessly to provide engaging learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in our students.
Building strong relationships with families is key to our success. I encourage you to stop by and see all of the wonderful learning opportunities provided to our students. I am always available to discuss your child’s progress, listen to your concerns, and celebrate their achievements. Together, we can create a positive and enriching learning experience for all of our students.
Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of nurturing the leaders of tomorrow. I look forward to a fantastic school year filled with growth, learning, and joy!
Meet the Assitant Principal
Liz Moore
I am originally from North Carolina and have worked as an educator for fifteen years. During this time, I gained experience as a classroom teacher, special education teacher, and literacy coach. I have called Florence One Schools my home for seven years!
I received my bachelor's degree in special education from Appalachian State University. While working with students, I noticed the need for direct and systematic reading instruction. So, I continued my work at Appalachian State and received a Master's degree in literacy. In 2024, I graduated with a second Master's Degree in School Administration from Gardner Webb University.
As I step into the role of assistant principal at Briggs Elementary School, I am eager to bring my experience and passion for education to support students, families, and teachers.

Meet the Curriculum Technology Coordinator
Summer Guinn
Greetings Bulldog Family!
My name is Summer Guinn and I serve as the CTC (Curriculum Technology Coach) here at Briggs Elementary. Having spent the past 16 years in education, I have worked in many roles such as a classroom teacher in elementary and middle school as well as district administration over math intervention.
I value hard work, communication, and fostering a family atmosphere. It is my belief that every student has the ability to achieve greatness and it is my goal to support our teachers and staff in helping students do just that. As the CTC, I work with classroom teachers to support student learning, as part of the leadership team to provide teacher practice, and with all grade levels to integrate instructional technology.
The key to our success is coming together to provide the best educational experience for our students. I am grateful for the opportunity each day to support our fantastic teachers and to grow our bulldog pups. Building relationships with parents, colleagues, and students is very important to me so if you ever need to reach me, my door is always open. I’m looking forward to a fantastic year!

Briggs Farm
SC Farm to School is a program that connects schools with local agriculture. The goals of the program are to 1) Increase the number of SC grown fruits and vegetables in schools, 2) Promote healthy eating habits, 3) Provide nutrition and agricultural education, and 4) Support the local economy. The Program is a collaborative partnership between the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, South Carolina Department of Education, South Carolina Department of Social Services and Clemson University.
“The Farm to School concept is a true personal passion of mine and I am thrilled to be able to share it with our students,” said Jeff Murrie, Briggs teacher and co-sponsor of the Briggs 4-H Club. “Although we are just finishing up with the bricks and mortar of the project, I feel strongly that all the students that have been involved up to this point have already started learning invaluable lessons for their future,” Murrie went on to say. “This has truly been a community effort and we look forward to celebrating with all our partners during the upcoming Taste of Briggs that is appropriately themed Farm-to-School this year,” said Murrie.
